I am writing everyone I know in the Sacramento and Oakland areas. I volunteer with a group called Remote Area Medical (see www.ramusa.org <http://www.ramusa.org/> ) and they are going to be in Sacramento at the Cal Expo on April 1st to April 4th and Oakland at the Oakland Coliseum on April 9th to April 12th. This group provides free dental, vision and medical care to low income families. All the medical care is provided by volunteer licensed California professionals. Everything is free – we even provide free meals to the patients while they wait. These events can be quite large. We may have over 250 dental professionals, for example, doing free fillings, extractions and providing other services. We can sometimes provide free services for several thousand people per day but the demand is always greater than the numbers we can help. Therefore it pays to know about these events early and understand the rules about how to get help. If you have friends or associates who can’t afford dental or vision care, or who need simple medical exams, please let them know about this event. Event website: www.RAMCaliforniaVolunteers.org has a page of instructions for patients. Overview of free services provided: * Dental: Cleanings, fillings, extractions. Pediatric dentistry is available. * Vision: Complete Eye Exams. Prescription Glasses Made on Site (usually while you wait) * Medical: Pediatric exams; adult physicals & medical consults (including diabetes and hypertension); chiropractors; acupuncture; blood lab work; chest X-rays; medication assistance; and many other medical specialties available. *****Medicare does not provide dental or vision care (unless you have one of the +Plus plans) so we find many elderly are often in desperate need of these services. Please pass the word on these free clinics if you know people who might need this kind of help.**** MyChelle J.
